The Festive Fanfare of the Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra by Heinz Sandauer (1911–1979) provided the opening of the first concert of the Orchestra at the Konzerthaus in Vienna on 3 October 1966. Sandauer, who studied composition under Joseph Marx, made a career for himself in radio and films, and was also much in demand as an arranger. He was one of the three conductors for the inaugural concert. In his Festive Fanfare Sandauer pays tribute to Johann Strauss, whom the orchestra has to thank for its name, by including the world-famous triad motif from The Blue Danube.
